15x Kitchen island

A large and luxurious kitchen island is the ultimate kitchen dream for many people. Not only because it is so beautiful, but a kitchen island has many more advantages. With a kitchen island, for example, you have more work space in the kitchen, you have the option of creating more storage space, and with a kitchen island you can turn your kitchen into an attractive meeting place. Still, it is not always a good idea, or even impossible, to take a kitchen island. For example if you have a very small or a narrow kitchen. And it also entails the necessary costs. Consider, for example, the extra costs for laying pipes for the stove and sink.

1. Small kitchen island

Many people think that a kitchen island is always big. That is nonsense, of course. Kitchen islands come in various sizes, from very small to super large. An important tip is to take a size that suits the space. Make sure you can walk around the island without any problems. In this fine light kitchen, they have combined three elements. In addition to low kitchen cabinets, you will also find a high cabinet wall and a kitchen island. It may be a small kitchen island, but that doesn’t make it any less beautiful. It offers extra workspace and storage space. It also looks super nice, especially thanks to the combination of the sleek black cabinets and the white Carrara marble worktop. 2. L-shaped kitchen island

Another misunderstanding is that a kitchen island is always square or rectangular. Erin proves that it can also be done differently. In her super beautiful home in Malibu, she has opted for a great kitchen with an L-shaped kitchen island. She combined this with low kitchen cabinets in a corner arrangement. The white marble worktop forms a bold contrast to the black wooden cabinets. With the island, Erin has twice the workspace and closet space on the inside. Several nice bar stools have been placed on the outside, so that you can also sit comfortably on the kitchen island. Would you like to see more of this beautiful kitchen? Click here !

The three inspiration examples above all have a white marble worktop. But of course you can finish a kitchen island with different types of worktops made of different materials. Below you can see Kelly’s kitchen, who wanted a cool family kitchen. Low, sleek white kitchen cabinets have been placed on the fixed wall, finished with a thick concrete worktop. In addition, a compact kitchen island has been placed, which has been given the same concrete worktop. What is really nice is that one side, where the bar stools are, is tiled with nice Delft blue pattern tiles. The two large industrial hanging lamps from IKEA also look very cool. We found this kitchen from the Gjøvik House project in the portfolio of Danish design agency Norm Architects. The Danish designers have designed a dream kitchen for this dream home. It is an open kitchen, which is connected to the living room by a number of wide steps. The kitchen is very spacious, making it possible to place a super large cooking island in addition to a large cupboard wall. The cupboard wall is characterized by both sleek white doors and beautiful wooden panels. The kitchen island is made entirely of the same wood. In addition to the enormous amount of work space, a lot of storage space has also been created in this kitchen with the large chest of drawers. Click here to see more pictures of this dream kitchen!

6. Marble kitchen island

So kitchen islands with marble countertops are very popular, but like Kelly’s kitchen island, whose concrete worktop continues on to the side panels, you can do the same with a marble top. The super beautiful kitchen below is designed by Blakes London. They have realized a great kitchen in a characteristic building in London. Beautiful off-white kitchen cabinets with a marble worktop and ornate panel doors have been realized along the large wall. These run all the way from the front to the back of the house. In addition, they also have a kitchen island, whose white marble worktop continues on the side panels. This makes it look like a big block. Only the inside is furnished with cupboards and kitchen appliances. The stove and sink can be found on top of the worktop. This kitchen is a must-see! Click here .

7. Narrow kitchen island

In a very narrow kitchen it is actually not possible to take a kitchen island, but this does not mean that your kitchen has to be super wide. In this relatively narrow kitchen, for example, you will also find a kitchen island, centrally located in the kitchen between a cupboard wall and low kitchen cupboards. The island is at most as wide as the fixed low cabinets, which is about 60 centimeters. There is enough space, so you can walk around and work well. The extra workplace that has been created with this is of course super nice. And in this case the island also has a kind of connecting function, involving left and right together. 8. Kitchen island with bar table and sink

Some take a kitchen island, others use the kitchen island as an extra workbench. New York architectural firm Elizabeth Roberts has opted for a beautiful kitchen island with only a sink for this kitchen. The rest of the space is used as an extra work space and bar table. In the photo you can clearly see that the thin worktop extends a bit, so that you can sit comfortably with your legs under the bar table on the sturdy stools. The bar table has a more social character, which you can sit on, for example, when someone is cooking. In addition, a round dining table has also been placed in the kitchen, where you can actually eat. Take a look at this beautiful kitchen. Click here .

9. Large workbench

There is a difference between a kitchen island and a workbench / work table. A kitchen island is often a large block without legs and is fixed to the floor, while a workbench or work table has legs and is placed loosely on the floor. You can therefore also move a workbench afterwards, which can be an advantage. Below you can see a very nice example of a kitchen with a large workbench. A beautiful gray country workbench with an oak worktop, which is placed to create more work space in the kitchen. This workbench is also equipped with handy drawers. If you already have an existing kitchen, you can install a workbench in it afterwards. IKEA, for example, has some beautiful freestanding workbenches. This beautiful country kitchen can be admired here.

13. Small kitchen island

Spanish interior designer Sergi Pons proves that you can also place a kitchen island in a small apartment. For a very special project in a super beautiful characteristic apartment in Barcelona, he designed the kitchen below. Instead of running kitchen cabinets along the wall, which many people would choose, he placed the kitchen right against the wall. This created the possibility to also place a kitchen island. Although it is a small kitchen island, it was possible to create extra work space and a bar in the kitchen. Super nice! Click here to see more.

Sometimes it is even a good idea to take a kitchen island only, without low cabinets or wall units. Margaux and Thomas have chosen this, who live in a super small apartment of only 40m2 in Paris. The kitchen is arranged along a number of fixed cupboards, which are used as a kind of storage room and wardrobes. The kitchen island is really the only thing that belongs to the kitchen.
