Brave Ground has been chosen by Flexa as color of the year 2021 – A beautiful neutral color that forms the basis for change. Wondering how you can apply this beautiful earth tone in your interior? Read on quick!
Next year’s paint color trend season has just begun, with Flexa’s first Color of the Year 2021. Brave Ground has been named Flexa color of the year. Think of the feeling of being surrounded by clay, earth or sand and the need for sober decisions and environments. Think of a timeless shade that you can easily combine – a shade that makes you feel good and at the same time is flexible. A shade that can be used in any room in the house, which is not too hip and gives a feeling of comfort and security.
The Flexa color of the year creates atmosphere and feeling. The forecast analyzes social, cultural and design trends from around the world, bringing architecture, design and technology experts together at the AkzoNobel Global Aesthetic Center to define the only color that spans the moment.
This year it was a challenge to convert the most important global trends into inspiring color palettes. We have seen unprecedented global change, with all of us dealing with experiences that are out of step with the modern world.
With the global coronavirus pandemic this year, lockdown served to emphasize how important our home environment has become; a place where we work, learn, relax and a space that uplifts, nurtures and comforts us.
We continue to go through uncertain times. In 2021, the warm and grounding tones of Brave Ground will allow us to find certainty in the strength of the ground beneath our feet, encouraging us to move forward and live again and giving us the flexibility to adapt to the ever-changing circumstances we face.
The color was chosen before the coronavirus pandemic and has not changed. Despite COVID-19, the course of the company’s future is still the same. The atmosphere of the moment is to have courage, the courage to change.
We’ve rediscovered more positive things: solidarity in communities, generosity from strangers, and the realization that we can do extraordinary things together. We find the courage to pick up and move on.
Using Brave Ground at home
The Flexa color of the year 2021 is regarded as ‘the basis of decorating’ and a ‘warm elemental neutral that makes other colors shine’. The color promotes stability, growth and potential, and provides a solid foundation for change and creativity in the home.
This is the mother earth of colors, it is organic, familiar and versatile. It is also a reliable shade, supporting all other colors in the spectrum.
With a warm, earthy tone, the enhancing hue connects us back to nature and the simple things in life. Experts believe that Brave Ground will create a nurturing space. A color that will work particularly well in the living room.
Our homes provide a sanctuary: a place to mend, fix and recalibrate ourselves on the road to recovery.
The courage to change
Brave Ground changes its tone depending on the time of day and the environment, creating a subtly responsive environment that reflects our growing desire to align our way of life with our planet. If we use this paint color on walls in the house, we will find that it is quite dark and powdery at night, while in the morning we see pink tones coming through.
In addition to the color of the year, Dulux includes four complementary color stories for combining or using Brave Ground alone. As a successor to Tranquil Dawn, Flexa’s Color of the Year 2021 was announced below four inspiring color palettes: Expressive, Trust, Timeless and Earth.
1. Expressive colors
Fancy some more energetic and subtle shades? The expressive palette was made to stand out by applying red and pink tones. These can be balanced with more neutral shades if you like warm expressive colors but don’t need to be energetic 24/7.
2. Trust colors
We feel most connected to nature, its green and brown tones. It’s where we disconnect and charge. The spectrum of brown represents comfort, a feeling of safety and orientation. It is reminiscent of a nice blanket, a cup of tea or coffee, a good book and a weekend stay in a cabin.
3. Timeless colors
Yellow has been around for a while in a variety of shades and hues, from clear to earthy, offering moments of warmth and energy without being overwhelming. This palette is reminiscent of longer days, a sunflower field and the harvest in late summer. The first three neutrals add light and a timeless background.
4. Earth colors
The name speaks for itself – the palette reflects the aerial image of our planet, including the (cloudy) sky, lakes and oceans. The greenish and blue palette colors start again with pastel neutrals to end with an almost black hue.
